Congolese politics are in turmoil at the moment, as independent candidate Hortense Kavuo Maliro has just announced her candidacy for the highest office in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It campaigns for the participation of people with disabilities in the country’s decision-making bodies.
Hortense Kavuo Maliro, born in 1979, is single and holds a degree in economics. She is the founder of the association for the social integration of people with physical disabilities (AISHIP) as well as the school We Are The World, a school that welcomes children victims of the horrors of war in North Kivu.
During her announcement in Goma, she said: “Inclusiveness in the management of the country is essential and it is time that people living with disabilities are represented in positions of position.” Hortense Kavuo Maliro is convinced of her skills to participate effectively in the management of the nation and thus change the situation so that the representation of people with disabilities can shine.
His candidacy attracted other candidates, with many physically handicapped who ran for office at various levels in the provincial, municipal and local legislatures. Hortense Kavuo Maliro wants to be a strong adversary to the other candidates for the supreme magistracy.
The independent candidate believes that the DRC is a geological scandal, affected by repeated wars and massive population displacements, without an adequate response. She explains that she decided to come forward to act and give new impetus to her country.
The growing number of candidates motivated to make a difference in the DRC – especially for people living with disabilities – brings hope in these difficult times for the country
