The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will face Nigeria and Egypt at AfroBasket 2021, a competition organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in Africa. The draw for this competition took place in Maputo, Mozambique and the tournament will take place from July 28 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The senior ladies Leopards of the DRC qualified for this final phase after their second victory against the Panthers of Gabon in the Zone 4-Central Africa qualifiers. The Congolese Fauves dominated their opponents with a score of 101-53 in the return match in Yaoundé and a score of 121-32 in the first leg.
Despite the absence of leaders from the Central African zone, the Congolese offered their country a deserved qualification. However, they will have to face experienced teams like Nigeria and Egypt in the next round.
The DRC are training hard to face these top teams. Congolese basketball fans hope their team can deliver a top performance in this competition.
Apart from basketball, the DRC also faces other challenges such as the security crisis in Kongo Central province, the infiltration of armed groups in the city of Beni, and growing political tensions. However, the government and its partners are working every day to solve these problems and to enable the DRC to develop further in various sectors such as agriculture, information technology and the modernization of public administration.
The DRC thus proves its determination to progress, whether on the sporting level or on the social and economic level.
