Gemena, capital of the province of Sud-Ubangi, is the object of all attention at the beginning of summer 2023. The provincial governor Jean-Claude Mabenze indeed launched on June 8 the concreting works of the Airport Avenue, a first in the history of the city since its dismemberment. The works, financed to the tune of 622,429.23 US dollars by the central government, extend over a distance of 800 meters and should last about two months.
The provincial director of the Office of Roads and Drainage (OVD) brigade of Sud-Ubangi Gabriel Kiwonge specified that this operation should give a new face to the city. The modernization of infrastructures is indeed a major challenge for developing the local economy and improving the daily lives of the inhabitants.
The concreting work on the Airport Avenue is proof of the efforts of the central government to support the development of the province of Sud-Ubangi, and reflect a desire to invest in large-scale projects with a view to more prosperous future for the region.
At the same time, the DRC is continuing its biometric identification programs for state agents, and is advancing in its preparations for CAN 2023, where the Leopards will face the Panthers of Gabon.
Unfortunately, the security situation is still precarious in certain regions of the country. Armed men continue to illegally occupy the residence of Moïse Katumbi, and the kidnapping of 100 people last April continues to cause concern. Despite this, the EU recently held talks with the DRC Ambassador to Benelux and to the EU to discuss the security situation and the electoral process.
The DRC is therefore continuing its path towards a brighter future, with tangible progress in all areas, but still has to face many and significant challenges to guarantee a stable and prosperous future for its inhabitants.
