CODECO kills 7 civilians in new attack on Adrassi village in DRC: violence continues to tear the country apart

The Adrassi village of the Djukoth chiefdom was the target of a new incursion by militiamen from the cooperative for the development of Congo (CODECO) this Sunday, June 11, according to the territorial coordination of the civil society living forces of Mahagi. The assailants attacked a position of the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) before being repelled. Unfortunately, this attack caused the death of seven civilians, including women and children, and set fire to four houses. Displaced populations move towards neighboring localities that they consider safer.

Despite the efforts of the provincial government and its partners, the CODECO militia, which has signed a peace agreement following a dialogue between local armed groups in Aru, continues to sow violence in the territories of Mahagi and Djugu. This situation continues to mourn the region, despite attempts by civil society and other peace actors.

Armed conflict is a hot topic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and armed groups continue to sow terror in many parts of the country. Civilians are increasingly vulnerable to this violence, leading to massive population displacements. Despite the reactions of the international community and the actions of certain local actors, the situation is struggling to improve.

It is crucial to continue efforts to strengthen security and peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in order to safeguard human lives and protect vulnerable communities. Solutions must be put in place to resolve this complex crisis and stem the violence in the country
