“CENI DRC: The provisional lists of candidates for the national deputies elections unveiled, the political competition is launched!”

The provisional lists of candidates for the elections of national deputies in the Democratic Republic of Congo are now known. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has made these lists public, marking an important step in the ongoing electoral process in the country. According to figures announced by the CENI, a total of 24,295 applications were declared compliant, of which 23,653 were deemed admissible and 642 inadmissible.

The electoral law in force in the DRC stipulates that any list of candidates must reach a minimum threshold of 60% of the seats in competition to be considered admissible. On the basis of the 484 seats to be filled in the national deputies, this corresponds to a total of 290 seats. Only political parties that have reached this threshold will be able to take part in the elections scheduled for next December.

In this context, the CENI announced that of the 66 political structures that submitted applications, only 51 reached the admissibility threshold, while the others were deemed inadmissible. This means that these 51 political formations will be authorized to participate in the elections and to compete for the seats in the national deputies.

It should be noted that the situation of three territories, namely Masisi, Rutshuru and Kwamouth, remains delicate due to the prevailing insecurity. Therefore, the CENI decided to reserve 16 seats for these areas pending the restoration of peace. Once the security situation has stabilized, by-elections will be organized only for parties and political groups that have reached the admissibility threshold and can compete in these territories.

This announcement by the CENI marks an important step in the electoral process in the DRC, giving voters an overview of the political formations that will be present on the ballots. The next few weeks will be crucial for the political parties as well as for the candidates, who will have to carry out their electoral campaigns in order to convince the voters of their program and their vision for the country.

In conclusion, the provisional lists of candidates for the elections of national deputies in the DRC have been published by the CENI. Only political parties that have reached the admissibility threshold will be able to participate in the elections. This marks an important milestone in the ongoing electoral process and sets the stage for intense political competition in the coming months
