“Accusations of insecurity in Beni: political tensions between the PNC and the UDPS”

The situation in Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo provoked a strong reaction from the political class. The commander of the Congolese National Police (PNC), the Principal Superior Commissioner Kahuma Sébastien, accused the animators of the small territorial recently appointed by the Head of State of orchestrating insecurity in the region. These irresponsible remarks have been denounced by the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), which qualifies their scope as alarmist.

Bernard Kambale, spokesman for the UDPS, member of the animators newly appointed by the Head of State, defends himself from these accusations and considers that this accusation emerges as an excuse to escape responsibility and a reservation to take legal action. . For him, this accusation follows that of the Mayor of the city against the Head of State after his order granting a presidential pardon to a category of detainees.

“We kept quiet because it was the first act. As it’s the second act, we think it’s a bit too much and we reserve the right to take legal action,” he explains.

The Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) is asking the commander to provide evidence to support his accusations. While supporting the search for peace, it stands for respect for the dignity and the presumption of innocence of all leaders newly appointed by the Head of State.

These animators newly appointed by the Head of State for the small territorial recently in the city of Beni are mostly members of the UDPS.

This situation in Beni is representative of the persistent tensions that reign in the region and which are regularly confronted with growing threats from armed groups. As North Kivu province tries to stem the violence, a new incident occurs with the Codeco militia attack on the village of Adrasi in Ituri, killing seven and jeopardizing the peace agreement
