Universal health coverage is a major challenge for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In this context, the Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Roger Samuel Kamba, received Albert Zeufack, the representative of the World Bank in the DRC to discuss the management of the health of all Congolese. The objective is to provide quality care to the entire population of the country.
During this meeting, the two parties discussed ways to reduce the mortality of mothers and children, while continuing the free childbirth programs. Free childbirth care is already in place in twelve provinces thanks to funding from the World Bank through the Health System Development Project (PDSS). The World Bank representative also mentioned other areas of collaboration, particularly in nutrition.
This interview was an opportunity for Albert Zeufack to discover the vision of President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, focused on Universal Health Coverage. Both sides discussed entry points for World Bank support to the government in achieving UHC. This technical discussion should lead to a costed strategy for Universal Health Coverage, to enable the World Bank to support the government with new instruments.
In short, the meeting between the Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention of the DRC and the representative of the World Bank proved fruitful. It made it possible to identify areas for improvement in the management of the health of the Congolese population. The technical discussions, initiated between the two parties, should make it possible to provide quality care to all Congolese, in particular by guaranteeing the continued free delivery throughout the country.
