Stop the panic: Congolese police deny Mobondo militia threat to Bandundu
The city of Bandundu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has recently been the victim of alarming rumors circulating on social networks. According to these allegations, the Mobondo militia planned an attack in the region, sowing fear and anxiety among the local population. However, the Congolese National Police (PNC)/Kwilu were keen to categorically reject these rumours, saying they were false information.
According to the authorities, the incident which was the subject of these rumors was in fact not linked to the Mobondo militia. Rather, it was an attack perpetrated by “young delinquents” who were already wanted by the security forces. The attacked whaler unfortunately caused serious injuries to a person who was hit by a bullet.
In order to calm the population and avoid any unnecessary panic, the police/Kwilu wanted to emphasize that operations are actively continuing to arrest these unscrupulous individuals. It is important not to confuse the facts and not give in to misinformation. The threat of the Mobondo militia, widely relayed on social networks, is in reality only a fabrication.
Colonel Camille Atungale, spokesman for the police in Kwilu, wanted to clarify the situation by declaring: “The stories should not be confused, there is no threat from the Mobondo, and there was no threat of the Mobondos. They are uncivil, petty bandits or thieves who are known and well identified in the city of Bandundu and even sought after, both by the police and by our valiant soldiers”.
This episode highlights the importance of verifying sources and not panicking about unverified information. It is crucial to exercise good judgment and not participate in spreading unfounded rumours. The Congolese police play an essential role in the protection of the population and the fight against crime, and it is essential to place our trust in them.
In conclusion, the situation in Bandundu is much more reassuring than the alarming rumors circulating on social networks would suggest. The Congolese/Kwilu police are carrying out operations to arrest the offenders responsible for the attack on the whaler, but there is no imminent threat from the Mobondo militia hanging over the town
