“Rehabilitation of the KANANGA-KALAMBA MBUJI road: End of works scheduled for August 2023”

Congolese Minister Alexis Gisaro responded this Thursday, June 9, 2023 to the concerns of honorable senators regarding road infrastructure in Espace Grand Kasaï. Asked about the KANANGA-KALAMBA MBUJI road rehabilitation project, he reassured about the commitment to end the works at the end of August 2023.

The Minister assured that the mobilization of three workshops would greatly facilitate the completion of the remaining asphalting works, which cover a distance of 190 km. In addition, he pointed out that the clay soils of the area would allow easier work than in the sandy part.

Regarding AfDB financing for this axis, it covers the asphalting of the RN1 Kabeya Kamuanga – Kananga and the construction of two bridges, as well as studies for the asphalting of the Kananga (Matamba) – Kalamba mbuji axis.

Finally, the Minister confirmed that all the contracts signed contain binding clauses, thus forcing the parties to respect their commitments under penalty of sanctions.

This rehabilitation of the KANANGA-KALAMBA MBUJI road is a major challenge for the region, which suffers from a lack of road infrastructure. Indeed, it will facilitate the movement of goods and people, thus helping to improve the living conditions of the local population. The Congolese government acts in this way for the economic development of the country
