The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing an increase in fuel prices, which was recorded on June 7 by Vital Kamerhe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy.
The objective of this increase in fuel prices is to strengthen the management of the oil subsidy and to control tax expenditure related to the purchase of oil products, while preserving the balance of the fuel supply system.
In the western zone, which includes Kinshasa in particular, prices have been revised upwards. The price of heating oil has increased by 140 Congolese francs to now sell for 2,985 Congolese francs, while the price of gasoline has increased by 140 Congolese francs to reach 2,995 Congolese francs. Oil, meanwhile, still sells for 2,450 Congolese francs.
It should be noted that the last increase in the price of fuel dates from November 28, 2022, due to changes in the parameters of the price structure of products, the need to relieve the cash flow of oil companies and the preservation of the balance of fuel supply system in countries.
This new price structure has been applicable since June 8.
Do not forget that the rise in fuel prices can have a significant impact on the Congolese economy, in particular by increasing the cost of living of the most precarious populations, as well as on the economic activities of the country. It is therefore essential to follow the evolution of the situation in order to understand the implications of this increase.
