Hortense Kavuo Maliro, a Congolese politician, entered the race for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by running as an independent candidate. She believes that inclusiveness is important in the management of the country and wants people living with disabilities to be represented in decision-making positions.
His announcement was followed by a motor caravan through the streets of Goma, during which other people living with disabilities also announced their candidacy at different levels of the elections. Hortense Kavuo Maliro has long campaigned for the participation of women and people with disabilities in Congolese political life.
“I have come to officially announce my candidacy for the supreme office. It is a real ambition. With the momentum in which we are, we must capitalize on all the opportunities that the constitution gives us in its article 72”, declared Hortense Kavuo Maliro during her statement.
Hortense Kavuo Maliro founded the Association for the Social Integration of the Physically Handicapped (AISHIP) and also promotes the We Are The World school, a school for children who are victims of war and aims to be worthy of excellence.
