“Case of embezzlement in the DRC: The General Inspectorate of Finance maintains its commitment despite the obstacles”

Misappropriation of public funds and corruption are scourges that undermine the socio-economic development of many countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Faced with this alarming situation, the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) is standing up firmly to fight against these unhealthy practices.

Indeed, Jules Alingete Key, Head of Department of the IGF, recently reaffirmed his agency’s commitment to the pursuit of this fight, despite the acquittal of the former Minister of Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Eteni Longondo. , indicted for embezzlement of funds intended for the response to the coronavirus. In a tweet, Jules Alingete affirmed that a priori control remains an effective solution to protect public funds and that social disapproval and conscience will be the judges of those who break the rules.

Despite the IGF’s damning investigations and reports on embezzlement and corruption, it is still difficult to convict fraudsters. This was the case for the former minister, Eteni Longondo, who has always denied having embezzled the 7 million dollars allocated to the fight against the pandemic, but whose management was characterized by “the absence of convincing supporting documents for the expenses carried out”.

The Court of Cassation, the competent court to judge the members of the government, finally cleared the former Minister of Health. However, this decision has not discouraged the IGF, which will continue to carry out its investigations and protect public funds.

In short, the fight against corruption and embezzlement of public funds is a constant battle in the DRC. The IGF is resolutely committed to pursuing its mission, despite the difficulties, to protect public funds and clean up the socio-economic environment of the country.
