The Minister of Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro, went to the guest house of parliament to respond to the concerns submitted by elected officials, in particular relating to road infrastructure in the Greater Kasai area.
He thus responded to the 22 senators who expressed their concerns about the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji project in the DRC. Regarding this project, Alexis Gisaro explained that in the first contract signed with CREC-7, the province of Kasaï-Occidental had been replaced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works to give the project a more national character. For the second contract signed with TOHA INVESTMENT, the works of the first phase would take 24 months, and the asphalting of the road is planned for a period of 36 months.
The Minister assured the Honorable Rémy BUANOKO that the remaining ground works, which lie over a length of 190 km, will be completed by the end of August 2023. For this, three workshops have been set up to facilitate traffic, after the training of machine operators.
Regarding the clauses of the contracts, they are all accompanied by dispute settlements, obliging the parties to respect their commitments under penalty of applying sanctions.
In summary, the works for the rehabilitation of the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji road in the DRC are on track and although fears have been expressed about the delays, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works remains committed to the delivery of the final works to the end of August 2023
