Cooperation between ARE and SNEL for the supply of quality electricity in the DRC

The exchange between the Director General of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ARE), Sandrine Ngalula Mubenga, and the Director General of the National Electricity Company (SNEL), Fabrice Lusinde, recently took place. This working session aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions and to discuss the support that AER should provide to SNEL, as well as the rights of electricity consumers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

For Sandrine Ngalula Mubenga, it is essential for the ARE to support SNEL as the incumbent operator. The role of the ARE is to support all operators in the electricity sector and to ensure that consumer rights are respected. During this working session, the priorities were discussed, in particular the energy sovereignty of the DRC.

Fabrice Lusinde underlined the importance of a quality electricity supply and the role of mediator played by the ARE between operators and consumers. It is essential to meet consumer expectations by providing them with a quality service and ensuring that disputes between operators and consumers are resolved fairly.

The ARE has a unit responsible for handling consumer complaints and resolving disputes between operators. This approach aims to guarantee consumer satisfaction and to provide a public electricity service to all.

This working session shows the importance of cooperation between ARE and SNEL in the electricity sector in the DRC. By working together, these two institutions can help ensure a quality supply of electricity and protect consumer rights. The energy sovereignty of the DRC is also a key objective to achieve in order to guarantee access to electricity for all citizens of the country.

In conclusion, this working session between ARE and SNEL testifies to the commitment of the two institutions to promote an efficient electricity sector and to guarantee the rights of consumers in the DRC. Through strong cooperation, these goals can be achieved, contributing to the country’s development and improving the quality of life of its people
