The DRC environment minister takes part in the Amazon regional summit for the protection of the environment and the fight against deforestation.

“The Minister of State, Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Ève Bazaïba, traveled to Brazil on Monday, August 07 to participate in the regional summit of the Amazon. This participation confirms the commitment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the fight against deforestation and the protection of the environment.

Organized from August 8 to 10, 2023 in Belem, in northern Brazil, this summit brings together the 8 member countries of ACTO (Amazon Cooperation Treaties). The objective of this meeting is to discuss ways to attract investment, fight against deforestation, protect indigenous peoples and promote sustainable development in the face of the challenges of climate change.

The participation of the Democratic Republic of Congo in this summit is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with other member countries and share good practices in the preservation of forest resources. Indeed, the DRC, Brazil and Indonesia are also planning a trilateral summit in Kinshasa on August 25, in order to consolidate their common commitment to the preservation of tropical forest basins.
