The price of fuel is increasing in the western part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), starting this Thursday, June 8. This new fee schedule was adopted following a decree signed by Vital Kamerhe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy. Its justification is linked to the need to preserve the balance of the petroleum product supply system and to strengthen the management of the petroleum subsidy.
Thus, prices at the pump in the provinces concerned, such as Equateur, Kongo-Central, Kwango, Kwilu, Mai-Ndombe, Mongala, Nord-Ubangi, Sud-Ubangi, Tshuapa, the city of Kinshasa, Boende, Mbandaka , Kisangani, Aketi, Bumba and the territory of Akula will spend an average of 10 to 200 Congolese francs more depending on the type of fuel.
On the web, some taxi drivers are already aware of these increases and are preparing to assume them. Congolese motorists are waiting to see if this price increase will continue in the months to come.
This announcement comes after the last increase in fuel prices in November 2022, justified by the evolution of the parameters of the price structure of petroleum products. This increase was also intended to relieve the cash flow of oil companies and maintain the balance of the fuel supply system.
Beyond the announcement on the price of gasoline, the DRC is currently experiencing a precarious situation between insecurity, difficult economic conditions and a protracted political crisis. Faced with this situation, the authorities are trying to put in place measures to preserve stability and security on the spot.
