Four deaths from rabid dog bites in Bea Nsiengun village

In a sad tragedy, four people lost their lives after being bitten by a rabid dog in the village of Bea Nsiengun, located in Bulungu territory, Kwilu province. The incidents happened about 4-5 weeks ago in Kimputu health zone, where 21 people were bitten, several of whom showed symptoms of rabies which unfortunately ended in a fatal outcome.

The latest death to date is that of a ten-year-old child, which occurred a month and a week after the bite inflicted by this rabid dog. The provincial health minister, Dr. Bena Mutuy, wanted to reassure the population by saying that the rabies vaccine was available. The 17 survivors will be quickly taken care of and vaccinated to prevent any further spread of rabies.

To ensure the safety and health of residents, the dog responsible for the bites was put down. Dr. Mutuy also stressed that additional measures will be taken to ensure the vaccination of other dogs present in the area, in order to avoid new infections caused by rabid dog bites.

This tragedy is a reminder of the importance of prevention and raising awareness of the dangers of animal rabies. It is essential to ensure that domestic dogs are properly vaccinated and to report any aggressive or unusual animal behavior to the appropriate authority.
