Title: New terrorist attack in the DRC: civilian populations are no longer safe
On the night of Thursday June 2, 2023, the inhabitants of Kanyamutsitsa, a village located in the chiefdom of Bashu, in the territory of Beni in North Kivu, were victims of a new bloody terrorist attack. The assailants identified as being members of the Democratic and Allied forces (ADF) once again used violence, causing the death of at least 9 civilians. Added to this are missing persons and significant material damage.
This attack only adds to the long list of abuses committed in the region for several years. The local authorities protested against this violent reaction of the ADF and the civil society denounced this human butchery imposed on the civilian populations. Roger Wangeve, president of the local civil society, urges the army to intensify patrols to put an end to these heinous crimes committed by the terrorists.
The reason for this new attack seems to be linked to revenge by the ADF, following the destruction of one of their camps in the region. This situation is alarming and shows that civilian populations are no longer safe in this part of the country. The government must take effective measures to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants of Beni and all other regions where the terrorist threat looms.
Peace and security are essential elements for the development of a country, and the Democratic Republic of Congo must redouble its efforts to put an end to insecurity in all its regions.
