“DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi demonstrates his commitment by chairing the hundredth meeting of the Council of Ministers despite the worrying security situation in the east of the country”

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo held its hundredth meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday, June 2, 2023, under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi, in person, despite the worrying security situation in the east of the country.

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, who leads the government, underlined the symbolic significance of this event and praised the availability and leadership of the President during previous meetings of the Council of Ministers. The regularity and constancy sufficiently demonstrate the normal functioning of the country’s institutions despite the difficult context of war that the enemies of the Republic impose on eastern DRC.

The Sama Lukonde Kyenge government, which experienced a technical reshuffle in May 2023 with the integration of big names from the Congolese political scene, is the fruit of Félix Tshisekedi’s new coalition called “Union Sacrée de la Nation”.

This coalition was set up following her marriage to Joseph Kabila Kabange’s Common Front for Congo (FCC). Vital Kamerhe became Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Economy and Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Defense and Veterans Affairs.

In short, the holding of the hundredth meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Sama Lukonde Kyenge government reaffirms the will of the President to maintain regularity and consistency in the development of the country, despite the security challenges in certain regions.
