“Félix Tshisekedi’s historic visit to China: a key strategic partnership for the economic development of the DRC”

The visit of the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi to China has generated interest around the world. The sectoral ministers of the two countries signed several memoranda. This historic visit was followed by a press briefing co-hosted by the Minister of Communication and Media, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance. In this context, the Sino-Congolese Global Strategic Partnership was mentioned.

The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya KATEMBWE, welcomed the signing of several memoranda between the ministers of the two countries. The Global and Strategic Partnership is a framework for reviving bilateral cooperation between Kinshasa and Beijing.

It is important to note that the basic principles of this partnership include the valorization of natural resources occupying a preponderant place. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, underlined the win-win partnership between the two countries. He also called on the Congolese to take initiatives to revive the economy with a vision and specific projects to submit to partners.

The Minister of Finance recalled the objective of the mission which was to relaunch bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The renewal of the Sino-Congolese relationship shows that China is one of the main economic players on a global scale and that the DRC has a major partner. Despite some disputes related to certain investments, in particular with Sicomines, the framework was laid down in a spirit of renewal of the relationship.

The cooperation between the two countries is strengthening and will continue to be a hot topic as it opens up new prospects for the DRC in terms of investment and economic development. Expectations in terms of job and wealth creation are high. The Congolese are called upon to be bold to seize the opportunities offered by this strategic partnership
