“Worrying situation in North Kivu: the M23 rebellion and the Rwandan army threaten the security of the region”

Alarming security situation in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The M23 rebellion, supported by the Rwandan army, has destabilized the Rutshuru area, despite the presence of regional agreements and the force of the East African Community (EAC) which is there. The tension is particularly high, with the reinforcement of the Rwandan army troops coming from the border post of Mwaru. The rebels have also reinforced themselves with recruits, who have completed their training in Rwanda.

The DRC armed forces have vehemently denounced the behavior of the Rwandan army and its M23 auxiliaries, who seek to reoccupy their former positions in Kibumba and Rugari, to attack the city of Goma and increase the humanitarian crisis and insecurity. .

In this situation, the Deputy Minister of National Defense informed the Council that the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo are on alert against M23 terrorists and the Rwandan army.

The security situation in North Kivu is therefore worrying, and additional efforts are needed to guarantee the security of the population and the stability of the region.
