The UDPS delegation, led by Secretary General Augustin Kabuya, made a working visit to the Paris-Brussels axis, from 19 to 26 May 2023. This visit was an opportunity for the SG of the UDPS to meet members of his party, but also members of other allied parties of the UDPS.
On May 20, Augustin Kabuya met with various delegations, including members of the federations of Great Britain and Belgium, the section of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as young people from the “Autre Vision du Congo” party. The SG recalled the importance of discipline for any political party, and invited the members of the federations of Belgium to more unity and sincerity. He also referred to the biblical parable of the workers of the last hour to illustrate the importance of considering all UDPS fighters, whether in opposition or in power.
On May 22, Augustin Kabuya continued his visit to Paris, where he met with members of the federation in France to discuss the activities of the federation, preparations for the presidential election, and financial and material means for the federation. He also visited Alexandre Ngyekama, hospitalized federal president.
Back in Brussels, the SG met several delegations on 23 May, notably those from the Netherlands and Germany. The following day, he welcomed Benedicta Lasi, Secretary General of the Socialist International, with whom he had constructive exchanges on the prospects of the Socialist International. They also met with Philippe Close, 1st Vice-President of the Belgian Socialist Party and Mayor of Brussels.
The SG ended his visit with a meeting with the UDPS community in Belgium, during which he encouraged the combatants in their political commitment.
Beyond these political meetings, the editorial staff was also able to consult articles published on the blog, which portray a complex situation in a DRC where tension is still palpable. In short, initiatives and meetings, such as those mentioned above, are important in trying to appease and resolve the difficulties facing the DRC.
