NGOs educate young people about responsible sexuality at the Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa
Since the start of the Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa, NGOs have taken the initiative to raise awareness among young participants about responsible sexuality. These organizations have settled in the Tata Raphael and Martyrs stadiums, where sports and cultural activities take place.
The objective of this sensitization is to bring young people to adopt a responsible sexuality to avoid sexually transmitted infections, unwanted pregnancies and HIV/AIDS. Maria Mazeya, a member of the NGO Center Coulibaly Sidik, explains that their awareness sessions cover different topics such as women’s menstrual cycles and the use of condoms.
The NGO also distributes kits including birth control pills, menstrual cycle necklaces and male condoms. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sexually active young people are particularly at risk of sexually transmitted infections.
