“Controversial adoption of a new electoral bill in DR Congo despite the opposition”

On June 5, the national deputies voted for the adoption of the bill relating to the distribution of seats by electoral constituency for the legislative, provincial, municipal and local elections. This decision was taken without the agreement of the elected representatives of the opposition who had boycotted all the plenaries related to the examination of this bill.

361 voting MPs voted in favor of passing the bill. The plenary first validated the conclusions of the PAJ Commission concerning the in-depth study of this text linked to the elections. Furthermore, President Mboso stressed the urgency of passing this bill.

Following its adoption at first reading, this bill will be examined at second reading by the Senate.
