“Violence and attacks in the judicial system in the DRC: an urgent need to rethink the interactions between the security and justice forces”.

At the heart of the turmoil, the scene in the DRC is once again marked by violence. While IREC finds itself at the center of a legal case, judicial police officers have just experienced a moment of tension with Judge Ndonda. The latter indeed opposed their action and tried to remind them of the legal procedures to follow. He is unfortunately the victim of a violent physical attack, which took place in the public street.

This situation is unacceptable and must never happen again. Despite the need to uphold the law, violence can never be an option. It only serves to compromise justice and undermine people’s confidence in institutions. The incident shows once again that it is time to rethink the interactions between the authorities of the security forces and justice in the country. We call for a thorough and constructive reflection on the appropriate measures to guarantee the security of all and the preservation of the rule of law.

In the meantime, we will extend our commitment to the defense of human rights and the promotion of democracy in the DRC. We will continue to be vigilant and work to ensure that abuses such as this are never forgotten or marginalized. The Congolese people need lasting solutions to resolve their difficulties and develop. It is therefore necessary to bring each stakeholder to adopt peaceful and respectful tools to reach a consensus and a satisfactory solution.
