New leadership at the RVA: A major turning point for the future of aviation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Board of Directors of the Régie des Voies Aériennes (RVA) of the Democratic Republic of Congo recently experienced a change in leadership. The handover and recovery ceremony took place on July 26 in the commune of Gombe, thus marking the passing of the baton between the outgoing team and the incoming team. This transition follows presidential orders that have appointed new managers in some public companies.

Alphonse Shungu Mahungu, who already held the position of General Manager of the RVA, was reappointed. He will now be assisted by Mayaya Kawaasa, appointed as Deputy Managing Director. Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba, meanwhile, replaces Bienvenu Liyota Ndjoli as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In his speech, Bienvenu Liyota, the outgoing President, expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for the confidence placed in him during his three years of service at the head of the Board of Directors of the RVA. He also thanked all the staff of the central administration and the airport entities, as well as his colleagues on the Board of Directors and the General Manager, with whom he worked to stabilize the management and turn around the activities of the RVA.

He highlighted the achievements made under their leadership, including the modernization of airport infrastructure and air navigation equipment in various cities of the DRC. Despite the challenges faced, he affirmed that the RVA had maintained its operational capabilities thanks to the competence of its technical staff. He concluded by expressing his confidence in the development prospects of the RVA, highlighting the strengths available to the company.

The new Chairman of the Board of Directors, Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba, meanwhile affirmed that the management team would work in the interest of the RVA and its staff. He promised to support the Managing Director and to promote good collaboration within the Board of Directors. He also stressed the importance of dignity and success in work, and expressed his willingness to ensure that the future transition goes smoothly.

This change in leadership marks a new step for the RVA, which is positioning itself as a growing company, ready to face the challenges of the aviation sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thanks to the competence of its personnel and the investments in the improvement of the infrastructures, the RVA continues to ensure the safety and the air navigation in the country
