Congolese genocide: Martin Fayulu calls for the commemoration of “Genocost”
On August 2, 2023, Martin Fayulu appealed to Congolese to commemorate the victims of the so-called “GENOCOST”. In a press release, the president of Ecide stressed the importance of recognizing and having the genocide suffered by the Congolese people recognized throughout the world.

According to Martin Fayulu, genocide is not limited to acts of violence and mass murder, but also encompasses the deliberate and planned destruction of a group, its history, culture and achievements. The inclusion of Article 2 of the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide reinforces this notion.

This commemoration day aims to prevent the terrible horrors of the Congolese genocide from falling into oblivion and to honor the memory of the victims. Martin Fayulu expressed his gratitude to the Congolese diaspora who support this approach and pledged to put an end to such atrocities.

The choice of August 2 for this commemoration echoes the start of the Second Congo War, a conflict that claimed the lives of more than 6 million people. By using the term “Genocost”, Martin Fayulu wishes to draw attention to the seriousness of the situation and mobilize efforts for justice and genocide prevention.

While the international community remains inert in the face of these crimes, Martin Fayulu urges the Congolese not to give up and to continue their fight. It highlights the courage and resilience of compatriots in the occupied territories who are still suffering persecution because of their Congolese identity.

The commemoration of “Genocost” is a poignant reminder of Congo’s tragic history and the need to prevent such acts of genocide in the future. By remembering the victims and acknowledging their suffering, we hope that justice can finally be served and that such events will never happen again
