Democratic Republic of Congo: the economic and social situation is deteriorating according to the opposition

The social and economic situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to deteriorate, according to a recent statement by the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC), an opposition platform. The vertiginous fall of the Congolese franc and the increase in the prices of basic necessities are the main causes of the deterioration of the economic situation, leading to a loss of purchasing power in the country. Political leaders also deplore the rise of tribalism, corruption and illicit enrichment.

The FCC also condemned the violations of fundamental rights, in particular with regard to the press, the opposition and civil society, and called on the international community to sanction the sponsors and the performers of these violations. This position comes after the Congolese National Police repressed a peaceful demonstration organized by an opposition bloc formed by Martin Fayulu, Matata Ponyo, Moïse Katumbi and Delly Sesanga.

The chaotic management of the country and the instrumentalization of the judiciary were also deplored.

In recent years, the DRC has suffered from numerous political tensions, growing insecurity and a huge economic challenge. Despite this, the country’s leaders remain determined to boost the oil industry and improve infrastructure to attract foreign investors.

The DRC will face many challenges in the years to come, but the FCC and other political leaders continue to advocate for efficient reform and governance, which could help remedy the situation.
