In the Democratic Republic of Congo, tensions are growing ever more intense as the elections approach. The arrest of Salomon Kalonda Della, principal adviser to Moïse Katumbi, triggered a wave of reactions from the opposition. The victim’s brother, Moïse Moni Della, told a press conference that the arrest had been planned by the Presidency of the Republic and that Felix Tshisekedi was establishing a regime of terror. According to him, Salomon Kalonda was arrested simply because he is behind a person who has a vision for a qualitative change in Congo, Moïse Katumbi.
So far, the exact reasons for this arrest have not been communicated by the authorities in charge. However, there is an increase in police repression observed in several parts of the country and the risk of internet shutdowns for the next few hours.
Faced with this increasingly tense situation in the DRC, members of the Congolese opposition are organizing to obtain an impartial CENI. Political tensions are therefore likely to increase sharply as the deadline for the elections approaches. It remains to be seen how things will evolve in the coming days and weeks, between threats of repression and conflicts of all kinds.
