The Turkish company Milvet responsible for the rehabilitation of the Kinshasa International Fair (Fikin) saw its work stopped due to persistent differences with the Congolese party, represented by the management committee of this tourist site. According to certain sources, the company of Turkish origin would have demanded the provision of a camp of an extent of 6 hectares, going from the Plazza space to the esplanade of the Fikin for an occupation of 10 years. . In addition to a fixed timing model for the rehabilitation, the Milvet company also requested a possible takeover of the premises if the works went beyond the deadline.
Fair managers are adamant Milvet went above and beyond what was agreed and showed signs of overbidding. Site officials briefed on these requirements claimed that the Turks would be willing to pay a rental fee of US$60,000 per month for the occupation of these 6 hectares. The Milvet company had however started the work, the site had been emptied of its occupants, drinking establishments, and the containers containing building materials were visible on the spot.
The rehabilitation work of the Fikin includes, among other things, the project of an exhibition center, an amusement park, as well as the construction of a multifunctional arena with 20,000 seats. Despite these multiple improvements, the project remains blocked with the withdrawal of the Milvet company and it will be necessary to wait to know if a new company will take the lead in these expected changes.
