Collective commemoration of the National Day of Tribute to victims of conflict-related sexual violence and other serious crimes in the Democratic Republic of Congo this August 02, 2023 in Kinshasa
The National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes against the Peace and Security of Humanity (FONAREV) calls on the entire Congolese population as well as the international community to mobilize for the commemoration of the national day of tribute to the victims of sexual violence linked to conflicts, commonly known as “Genocost”, which will be held on August 02, 2023.
As part of this commemoration, FONAREV is organizing a collective ceremony which will take place in several symbolic places in the city of Kinshasa. The population is invited to meet at the Place des Evolués in Gombe, at the Victoire roundabout in Kalamu and at the reinforced concrete wall in Mont Ngafula, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
At the same time, an official ceremony in the presence of State representatives will take place at the OUA city, from 10 am to 12 noon.
The creation of this annual day of commemoration aims to pay tribute to the victims of sexual violence linked to conflicts and other crimes against the peace and security of humanity in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as to the people who brought them assistance.
FONAREV encourages the entire Congolese population to come together in a spirit of national solidarity, in order to deal with this problem affecting our country. It calls on every Congolese to mobilize and contribute, in their own way, to an effective change in our common history.
Together, we can work for a better future, where peace and security will be a reality for all. Everyone’s participation is essential to support the victims and build a more united and just nation.
The National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes against the Peace and Security of Humanity (FONAREV) was created in accordance with Decree No. 22/038 of December 6, 2022 and the Law No. 22/065 of December 26, 2022, promulgated by the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi. Its mission is to help victims access justice, reparation, empowerment and community recovery, as well as to ensure that such crimes do not happen again.
FONAREV is actively working to achieve its objectives and counts on the commitment of all the actors concerned to support the victims and build a better future for our nation.
Let’s not forget that the fight against conflict-related sexual violence is everyone’s business, and that every gesture counts in building a stronger and more united Congo.. Let us participate together in this collective commemoration and show our commitment to justice and reparation for victims.
