“Moïse Katumbi condemns the aggression of Delly Sesanga Hipungu and calls for the promotion of democracy in the DRC”

The aggression suffered by national deputy Delly Sesanga Hipungu in the town of Kananga aroused the indignation of political opponent Moïse Katumbi Chapwe. The President of Ensemble pour la République strongly condemned this act of violence, expressing his solidarity with Delly Sesanga.

In a tweet, Moïse Katumbi deplored the worsening political violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He recalled that despite political differences, actors in the political arena should not be seen as enemies, but rather as adversaries. He stressed that democracy cannot be consolidated by resorting to barbaric methods such as physical attacks.

The leader of Ensemble pour la République also expressed his resistance to any attempt to return to dictatorship and its harmful consequences on individual freedoms, arbitrary arrests and human rights violations. According to him, the Congolese yearn for change, freedom and a better life.

Moïse Katumbi called for promoting love, unity and cohesion rather than hatred, division and chaos. He stressed the importance of continuing to advocate these values within a framework of accountability to build a better future for all.

It is important to note that Delly Sesanga Hipungu, national deputy and declared candidate for the presidential election of December 2023, was attacked during his tour in the Kasaï area. He was allegedly the target of young people claiming to be members of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), the presidential party.

This aggression underlines the need to promote a peaceful political climate in the DRC, where differences of opinion can be expressed freely and safely
