“ICGLR consultative meeting in Luanda: the worrying security and humanitarian situation in eastern DRC”

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, and the Minister in charge of Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi, attended the consultative meeting of the Interministerial Committee of the ICGLR in Luanda, where they presented the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Experts stressed the need to respect the ceasefire between the warring parties.

As part of the recent EAC initiative, two sites have been selected for the pre-cantonment and cantonment of M23 elements, respectively at Rumangabo and Kindu. The meeting was also an opportunity for the government to announce the revitalization of P-DDRCS.

At the same time, the humanitarian situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is worrying, with the massive displacement of the population. The government is mobilizing to respond to this humanitarian crisis.

It should be recalled that the 10th ICGLR summit is focused on peace and security in eastern DRC and Sudan. Maintaining efforts to stabilize troubled regions is a priority for the government.

In short, the consultative meeting of the Interministerial Committee of the ICGLR in Luanda made it possible to take stock of the security and humanitarian situation in eastern DRC. However, further efforts are needed to stabilize the areas plagued by violence and respond effectively to the humanitarian crisis.
