Parade of giant puppets during the 9th Games of La Francophonie
As part of the IX Games of La Francophonie, an exceptional parade of giant puppets took place on Monday July 31 at the Place de l’Échangeur de Limete in Kinshasa. This event aroused the wonder of the visitors present on the site.
Three countries were represented during this parade of giant puppets: Niger, Togo and the DRC. Eight artists animated this parade with a brass band troupe, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere.
The giant puppets danced and interacted with the audience, creating an intense moment of communion and sharing. Viewers were amazed at the quality and fluidity of the puppets’ movements, which seemed almost alive.
Raphaël Chirimwami, a resident of Kinshasa, testifies to his surprise and his delight in front of this parade: “What I see is really magnificent and very pretty. One could easily think that they are men, but in reality this are statues made from fabric. The movements are fantastic!”
The artists themselves expressed their joy at being able to share this moment with the population. Gilbert Agbevide, a puppeteer from Togo, says: “Beyond the competition, it’s above all a party and it’s the Congo. The atmosphere was there during this parade”.
The IX Games of La Francophonie are also an opportunity for the population to feel this joy and this positive energy. After this spectacular parade, the giant puppet competition will begin the next day at the Échangeur de Limete site.
