“A major electricity initiative to improve the lives of local communities: SNEL and PPC Barnet join forces to extend the electricity network to Zamba 1er and Malanga Cité”

The development of essential infrastructure is a major challenge for improving the living conditions of local populations. It is with this in mind that the National Electricity Company (SNEL) signed a memorandum of understanding with PPC Barnet, a private company working in the gray cement industry, for the implementation of a project to extend the electrical network intended to supply the villages Zamba 1er and Malanga Cité, located in the territory of Songololo, in Kinshasa.

This project, worth 1.2 million US dollars, is part of PPC Barnet’s social responsibility and aims to promote the social and economic development of the communities bordering the cement plant. The work planned for six months will be entrusted to the company EGEC.

SNEL, as contracting authority, concluded a contract with EGEC for the construction of two 30 kV lines, the installation of 5 30/0.4 kV transformers and a 5 MVA power transformer. These facilities will raise the voltage from 11 to 30 kV, thus meeting SNEL standards. The project also includes the connection of households and the installation of public lighting, ensuring optimum quality and durability.

The social impact of this initiative is considerable for the approximately 3,500 inhabitants living in more than 800 households in the Zamba 1er and Malanga Cité villages. Access to reliable and sustainable electrical energy will help improve their quality of life and promote the socio-economic development of the region.

For Iqbal Omar, Managing Director of PPC Barnet, this project illustrates the company’s commitment to social responsibility towards the local population. The implementation of the project will be closely monitored to guarantee the quality and durability of the electrical installations, thus ensuring a stable and efficient supply for the villages of Zamba 1er and Malanga Cité.

This collaboration between a private company and a public company highlights the importance of cooperation in the development of critical infrastructure. It marks a decisive turning point in the improvement of the living conditions of the local populations and testifies to the sincere commitment of the stakeholders for sustainable development in the DRC.

This electricity network extension project offers real development prospects for the Zamba 1er and Malanga Cité villages. It demonstrates the importance of electrification in the socio-economic development of communities and underlines the commitment of private companies to contribute to the well-being of the population. The success of this collaboration between SNEL and PPC Barnet shows that by combining resources and skills, it is possible to carry out projects that benefit everyone
