The cascading resignations within the Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) are making the news in July 2023. This political party, led by Vital Kamerhe, has seen several executives and communicators leave its ranks, highlighting the management issues within the organization.
In a letter addressed to the national president of the UNC, the pastor Claude Mugisho, candidate provincial deputy, expresses his concern as for the organization of the elections within the party. He believes that it does not portend a good electoral result in December 2023 and suggests reviewing the appointment of the secretary general to bring together all the forces of the party.
For his part, Professor Adrien Birindwa Bishikuabo, provincial deputy candidate and vice-president of the Congolese youth affiliated to the UNC, denounces a chaotic management of the party and a conflict between the organs. He resigns from the UNC, questioning the vision to lead the country in 2028.
The communicator of the National Movement of Kamerhists, Maître Claude Bisimwa, underlines the problems observed in the selection of candidates and questions the ability of the current secretary general to achieve the objectives set.
These resignations are not only the result of senior executives in the party hierarchy. Sadam Mashonga, congress executive and provincial deputy candidate, also announces his resignation. He calls on the leaders of the UNC to treat all executives fairly and to put an end to the corruption which affects the internal management of the party.
These serial resignations underscore the management and leadership problems within the UNC. They raise questions about the party’s ability to face the December 2023 elections and gather the necessary forces to carry out its political vision.
It remains to be seen what impact these resignations will have on the political future of the UNC and whether steps will be taken to address the internal issues that led to these serial departures. The race for elections in the DRC continues and the UNC will have to face these challenges to maintain its place on the Congolese political spectrum
