“Mathias Kabeya excluded from the list of candidates for the UDPS presidential party in Mbuji-Mayi: an affront to the population and to Congolese democracy”

The removal of Mathias Kabeya’s name from the list of candidates for the UDPS presidential party in Mbuji-Mayi follows his dismissal from his post as governor and the loss of confidence of President Félix Tshisekedi. This decision marks the official break with the base which manifested itself in protests during a recent event in the presence of the president himself.

Mathias Kabeya is described as a “dangerous and undesirable person” by a local UDPS official. He is considered a damned by the party, from the base to the presidency. Faced with this situation, the ex-governor tried to survive politically by using fraudulent means, infiltrating the list of another political grouping to replace a designated candidate. This fraudulent interference has aroused indignation and the will to oppose this manipulation on the part of many political leaders and the base of the UDPS.

Me Armand Ciamala Kanyinda, the lawyer initially nominated as the group’s candidate, declared that he remained calm and was preparing an action before the Constitutional Court to be restored to his rights. A statement is expected in the coming days.

The political situation of Mathias Kabeya illustrates the consequences of his mismanagement and the loss of confidence of the population and the presidential party. His desperate attempt to remain in the political arena using fraudulent methods shows the extent of his disgrace
