“The reunification of the opposition in the DRC: encouraging progress for the UDPS, a historic party”

The reunification of the UDPS, the historic opposition party in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), seems to be progressing slowly but surely. The four Historical Founders of the UDPS – Charles Dia Onken-a-Mbel, Paul-Gabriel Kapita Shabangi, François Lusanga Ngiele and Protais Lumbu Maloba Ndiba – recently visited former Prime Minister Samy Badibanga Ntita, who showed its support for their mission of reunification.

However, their meeting with the former Deputy Secretary General of UDPS/TSHISEKEDI, Bruno Tshibala Nzhenzhe, was not as conclusive, given that the latter seems to have a different perspective.

The Historical Founders of the UDPS also met the Honorary Ambassador François-Xavier Beltchika Kalubye, National President of the CDPS, who contributed positively to the accomplishment of their mission.

In a complex Congolese political context, these advances towards a reunification of the opposition could have a significant impact. Indeed, faced with the power in place, the unity of the opposition is more than ever necessary to offer a credible alternative and carry out democratic reforms in the DRC.
