The Democratic Republic of Congo continues its integration into the East African Community (EAC) with the arrival of its first Congolese judge at the EAC court. Kayembe Kasanda Ignace René was sworn in as a judge in the first instance division. The addition of Kayembe Kasanda Ignace René to this court marks the DRC’s firmer commitment to promoting the rule of law and justice in the region.
The country had joined the EAC in 2021 and had already been heavily involved in the organization’s deliberative and advisory body, sending at least seven Congolese to the EAC parliament.
These integration efforts are part of a broader strategy of the DRC which seeks to position itself as a major player in the region and to consolidate political and economic stability in the sub-region.
In this context, the DRC continues to benefit from international support for its development through public-private partnerships and foreign investments, such as the one established with Suez International to guarantee access to drinking water in the province of Kasai. Central.
However, the security situation in certain regions of the country remains worrying, with the extension for the 49th consecutive time of the state of siege in eastern DRC, to deal with the security and humanitarian crisis there. The ICC also sent a mission to the DRC to end sexual violence in the country.
Finally, political tensions persist, with the arrest of Salomon Kalonda at Kinshasa airport and the call for mobilization launched by the Congolese Laic Coordination Committee (CLC) against President Felix Tshisekedi. However, the country seems to want to build new partnerships and seek solutions to eradicate internal conflicts in the country.
