North Kivu, a province in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a region where armed violence is frequent and persistent. This Wednesday, May 31, clashes were reported early in the morning between the self-defense groups, the Wazalendo, and the M23 rebels. These fights took place in two different localities: Mulimbi, a village located in the Tongo groupement, and Luya, Chumba locality, in the Bishusha groupement.
According to some local sources, Rwandan soldiers (RDF) came to reinforce the rebel group M23, crossing the border from Gasizi, near Mbuzamahanga, in Rwanda. This news comes only a few days after the alert of the FARDC on a possible attack of the rebels of the M23 against the city of Goma.
Major General Sylvain Ekenge declared that “we are witnessing movements of RDF/M23 troops as well as their recruits who have just completed training in Rwanda and Tchanzu to reoccupy their former positions of Kibumba and Rugari where they installed their forward headquarters, in the area under the control of the EAC regional force. The objective of this displacement is to attack the city of Goma and thereby accentuate the humanitarian crisis and insecurity. »
What is currently happening in this province of the DRC is not very reassuring, and we must not forget that the humanitarian crisis and insecurity are very present there, making the situation even more alarming.
