The article that I propose is an additional information on current events in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) concerning the concerns relating to human rights in the pre-election period.
In a memorandum addressed to the President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), several non-governmental organizations for the defense of human rights, such as the Congolese Association for Access to Justice (ACAJ) and the Institute of Research in Human Rights (IRDH), expressed their concern about the human rights violations observed in the country.
These organizations stressed that the CNDH has an essential role to play in the protection and promotion of human rights, by ensuring the application of national and international legal standards. They denounced in particular the arbitrary arrests and detentions of people in the facilities of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) and of the Intelligence Staff, which contravene the Congolese Constitution.
Among the emblematic cases mentioned, the NGOs mentioned Salomon Kalonda, Franck Diongo and Fortunat Biselele, calling on the CNDH to find solutions to resolve these situations. They believe that the resolution of these cases would help calm the political climate before the long-awaited general elections.
In their memorandum, the human rights organizations also called on the CNDH to support investigations and legal proceedings against the perpetrators and accomplices of human rights violations committed by armed groups in the east and west of the ground floor. They underlined the importance of appealing to military courts and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to try the serious crimes committed.
It is obvious that respect for human rights is a major issue in the DRC, and it is essential for the CNDH to play an active role in the protection of these rights. By following the recommendations of these human rights organizations, the CNDH can help establish a peaceful political climate and promote free and fair elections in the country.
Overall, it is crucial to highlight human rights concerns in the DRC and to support the actions of human rights organizations to ensure that these rights are respected and protected throughout the pre-election process
