The undeclared accounts of Kasaï-Oriental: hidden serious violations?

The undeclared accounts discovered in the province of Kasaï-Oriental continue to be talked about. A correspondence from the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) addressed to the provincial governor denounces the poor treatment reserved for his delegation during a supervisory mission in Mbuji-Mayi. The IGF says that this incident reflects the provincial executive’s desire to conceal “serious violations” in the management of the province’s expenditure and revenue.

Since their discovery last May, the undeclared accounts, baptized “Solidarité Kasaï-Oriental” and “AGRIPEL”, are still blocked by order of the IGF. According to the information, these accounts received respectively an amount of one billion Congolese francs in December 2022 and 200 million Congolese francs in April 2023.

The tension between the IGF and the provincial authorities of Kasaï-Oriental is palpable. The provincial governor denounces the “interference” of the IGF in the management of the province and questions the quality and competence of the IGF inspectors. He calls for the involvement of the Head of State to resolve this conflict.

This case highlights the importance of transparency in the management of public finances. The discovery of undeclared accounts raises questions about the governance and accountability of provincial authorities. It is essential that public funds are managed rigorously and in accordance with established standards.

The resolution of this conflict between the IGF and the provincial authorities of Kasaï-Oriental will be decisive in restoring confidence and guaranteeing transparent management of public finances. It is essential that those responsible are held accountable and that action is taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Congolese population deserves transparent and accountable governance, where public resources are used efficiently for the development of the country. Hopefully this matter will be resolved in a fair manner and steps will be taken to prevent such issues in the future
