“Launch of work on the security situation in Ituri: the Minister of State initiates the peace process for a lasting resolution of conflicts”

The Minister of State, Minister of Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisa, launches the work of the workshop on the security situation in the province of Ituri, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The work took place on Friday, May 26 in Kinshasa. At the start of the session, Mbusa Nyamwisa pledged to work for the pacification of the eastern region of the DRC. He also asked the delegates of all the Iturian communities living in the city to share frankly the causes of the insecurity which reigns in their province.

The population of Ituri province is subject to numerous attacks by armed groups who commit serious abuses. The president of the Iturian community living in Kinshasa, Félix Kabuizi, presented four important current events, in particular the state of siege which, according to him, has a mixed record, the problem of the election of a new governor in Ituri, the need for intra- and inter-community dialogue with armed groups, and finally the restoration of state authority in the province. Mbusa Nyamwisa promised to make a plea to his hierarchy to organize a dialogue for peace in Ituri.

The Minister of State also stressed that the cessation of hostilities would allow the improvement of the security situation, the free movement of people and their goods on different roads and the emergence of integration projects. The province of Ituri has a forest ecosystem and mining and oil resources that offer it a bright future of economic growth.

Félix Kabuizi urged the “Iturian” population to commit to the path of peace that Mbusa Nyamwisi is working to build.
