“For a cleaner and healthier city: the urban road sanitation initiative in Kindu in the DRC”

The NGO Action Program for Integrated Development (PADI) recently embarked on an initiative to clean up urban roads in Kindu, in the province of Maniema, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since Friday, July 21, the members of this NGO have been traveling through the neighborhoods of Kindu to unclog the gutters and gutters clogged with waste.

Assumani Samuti Bin Kasanga, coordinator of the NGO, stressed the importance of raising awareness among the population to keep the streets clean: “We have noted with bitterness that since the asphalting of these roads, the gutters are often blocked and people think that these gutters and gutters have become garbage cans. It is this observation that has pushed us to undertake this work to clean up our environment. rs. It is essential that the population change their way of life and avoid behaving like in the Middle Ages.”

The local population is now asking the urban authority to allocate substantial resources to this NGO to enable it to continue this sanitation action.

However, the sanitation of urban roads can only be carried out effectively if the population is actively involved in keeping the streets clean. It is therefore essential to raise awareness and educate residents about the importance of waste management and respect for the environment. Regular and targeted awareness campaigns can help change behaviors and promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

In addition, it is essential that local authorities provide the necessary resources for these sanitation initiatives. This includes adequate equipment for the collection and management of waste, as well as monitoring measures to guarantee the effectiveness and sustainability of the actions carried out.

In conclusion, the sanitation of urban roads is a crucial issue to preserve the quality of life of the inhabitants of a city. It is therefore essential to implement concrete and sustainable actions to keep the streets clean. This implies close collaboration between the authorities, NGOs and the local population to change mentalities and adopt behaviors that respect the environment
