“FECOFA: Establishment of an electoral commission for a revival of Congolese football”

The FECOFA electoral commission, headed by Donat Liyoke, was set up during the extraordinary and elective general assembly held on July 22 in Kinshasa. This new body will be responsible for organizing the elections of members of a new FECOFA committee, as part of the normalization process put in place by FIFA last April.

Donat Liyoke was elected chairman of the commission with 37 votes, out of a total of 60 voters. Benjamin Makutu, meanwhile, becomes vice-president with 28 votes. The commission also has other elected members such as Michie Emeka Makutu, Elubert Huarakiero and Espérance Mayuma.

This establishment of the electoral commission represents an important step in the resolution of the crisis that has shaken FECOFA in recent months. It will make it possible to implement a democratic and transparent process to elect the various members of the committee, and thus restore stability and legitimacy to the governing body of Congolese football.

However, before this general meeting, supporters of the DCMP expressed their dissatisfaction following the withdrawal of the CAF license. The withdrawal sparked outrage and anger among the club’s fans, who flooded the hall to voice their disagreement.

It is essential to emphasize that the establishment of this electoral commission is a crucial step in the process of reconstruction and revival of Congolese football. By allowing the organization of transparent and fair elections, it offers the opportunity to restore the confidence of football players and to establish solid governance within FECOFA.

It now remains to follow closely the work of this electoral commission and to hope that the elections will take place in a peaceful atmosphere and respectful of the integrity of the democratic process. This new stage marks a real opportunity for Congolese football to rebuild itself and regain a place of choice on the international scene
