Title: Women journalists strengthen their leadership skills for better media management
Introduction :
This summer, a women’s leadership skills-building workshop brought together eighteen women journalists in Kinshasa. Organized by JDH-RDC, this event aimed to enable participants to develop their leadership skills in order to better manage newsrooms. On the program for this day, two modules focused on gender policy in the media and the promotion of women’s rights. This training marks an important step in the promotion of female leadership in the field of journalism.
Female leadership for effective newsroom management:
The first module of the training focused on gender politics in the media and its impact on the promotion of female leadership. The participants were thus able to understand how taking gender into account can contribute to better management of newsrooms. By promoting diversity and equal opportunities between men and women, women’s leadership can lead to greater open-mindedness, better listening to different points of view and more inclusive management of information.
The defense of women’s rights through female leadership:
The second module of the training focused on defending and promoting the rights of women and girls through female leadership. Women journalists were encouraged to become more engaged in promoting this leadership, using their voice and influence to defend the rights of women and girls. The media indeed play a crucial role in raising public awareness of gender issues and in the fight against inequalities.
JDH-RDC: a committed actor for the promotion of female leadership:
JDH-RDC, an international media development organization, has been implementing the “Canada World, the voice of women and girls” program since 2019. This initiative aims to promote female leadership in the media and give greater visibility to female journalists. The women’s leadership skills building workshop is part of this dynamic, offering participants the opportunity to develop their capacities and become key players in the media industry in the DRC.
Conclusion :
The Women’s Leadership Skills Building Workshop enabled eighteen female journalists to build their newsroom management skills and engage in advocacy for women’s rights. Thanks to this training, these women are ready to play an active role in the promotion of female leadership within the Congolese media.. JDH-RDC thus continues its mission of supporting and promoting women journalists, thus contributing to a more egalitarian and inclusive media industry.
