Urgent files in the transport sector requiring funds are on the government table in the Democratic Republic of Congo. President Félix Tshisekedi stressed the importance of these files during his communication at the last meeting of the Council of Ministers.
Among these files, we find in particular the work of two markers of tributaries of the Régie des Voies Fluviales (RVF) in Kindu and Kongolo. This work would make it possible to revive and secure river transport, which remains largely under-exploited despite the potential of the country’s hydrographic network.
The President of the Republic also mentioned other projects requiring financing, such as the Kalemie and Kinshasa dredge, as well as the construction of a spoil barge for Kinshasa. He also mentioned the rehabilitation of Bangoka air terminal in Kisangani and the airstrip of Kolwezi airport.
Faced with these urgent needs, the Head of State asked the Minister of Transport, Ways of Communication and Accessibility, in collaboration with the Minister of Finance, to act quickly and effectively to find the necessary funding for the realization of these projects.
These initiatives bear witness to the government’s desire to support the development of the transport sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. By investing in improving river and airport infrastructure, the country could boost internal trade and strengthen its regional connectivity.
It is essential to note the importance of these investments in a country like the DRC, where transport plays a key role in the economy and the mobility of populations. The development of waterways and airports would not only facilitate trade, but also improve access to essential services such as health and education.
In conclusion, the urgent issues of the transport sector in the DRC require immediate attention. The government must find the necessary funds to carry out crucial works such as the improvement of waterways and the rehabilitation of airports. These investments will have a lasting impact on the country’s economy and on the quality of life of citizens. It is imperative that the authorities work diligently to carry out these projects and foster the development of the transport sector in the DRC
