Strengthening security in Goma: the promise of the new police commander in North Kivu
In a context marked by a worrying security situation, Deputy Divisional Commissioner Eddie Mukuna takes the reins of the national police in North Kivu with the promise of strengthening security in the city of Goma. During a farewell ceremony in honor of senior PNC officials who are leaving the province to take up new positions, he said he had a priority plan: to ensure the safety of people and their property. He thus wishes to gain the confidence placed in him by the Head of State by imposing real peace and serenity in the daily life of the inhabitants of Goma.
This appointment comes following the promotion of Deputy Divisional Commissioner Eddie Mukuna by presidential order of April 1st. He thus replaces Aba Van Ang, who will take up his new duties at the general police station of the PNC in Kinshasa. Among the seven PNC officers leaving North Kivu is also François Kabeya Makosa, current mayor of Goma, who will be assigned to the Kapalata center in Kisangani. For his part, Christian Kongolo, deputy commander of the PNC-Nord-Kivu, becomes provincial commissioner of the PNC-Sud-Kivu.
This reorganization within the national police reflects the importance given to security in the North Kivu region and the challenges it faces. Indeed, the presence of armed groups, such as the Ugandan ADF rebels, and political tensions fuel insecurity and threaten peace in the region. The new Commander Eddie Mukuna will therefore have to show leadership and determination to put in place effective measures to maintain order and fight against criminal acts.
It is also necessary to emphasize the importance of collaboration between the security forces and the local population in this undertaking. Trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community are essential to ensure the success of security actions. Strengthening ties with the population, encouraging citizen participation and promoting open dialogue will be key elements in the fight against insecurity in Goma.
In conclusion, the new police commander in North Kivu, deputy commissioner Eddie Mukuna, shows his determination to strengthen security in Goma. His assumption of office comes in a context where stability and public order are essential to ensure the well-being of the inhabitants of the region. It will therefore be essential to put in place concrete measures and promote collaboration with the population to meet the security challenges facing the North Kivu region.
