Congolese teachers mobilized for their rights
Teachers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are determined to make their voices heard. During a general assembly held in Kinshasa, the Synergy of teachers’ unions in the DRC demanded the suspension of the 10,000 FC deduction from their salaries and the restitution of the loss of earnings since last April.
One of the main demands of this structure is the payment of the new salary scale for a peaceful return to school. Teachers believe that this new scale will allow them to meet the current cost of living. They also call for a uniform salary and bonus for all primary school teachers.
Jean-Bosco Puna, spokesperson for the Synergy of Teachers’ Unions in the DRC, recalled the importance for the Congolese State to respect its commitments. He wants a peaceful 2023-2024 school year and asks that teachers be paid commensurate with their work.
This mobilization of teachers highlights the difficulties encountered in the education sector in the DRC. Teachers, who play a vital role in the development of the country, should be supported and fairly compensated to ensure quality education for future generations.
It is crucial that the Congolese government listens to the legitimate demands of teachers and seeks adequate solutions to meet their needs. Quality education is one of the pillars of a country’s development and investing in the education sector is essential to ensure a better future for all Congolese citizens
