The IX Games of La Francophonie are taking off in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this last straight line before the start of the competition, the organizers are emphasizing the cultural aspect which promises to be rich and diversified.
During a briefing, the Ministers of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, and of Culture and Arts, Catherine Katungu Furaha, as well as the director of the national games committee, Isidore Kwandja, underlined the importance of the cultural dimension of this event.
Many sports facilities have been finalized and others are ready to welcome athletes from French-speaking countries. The games village, located at the Tata Raphaël Stadium, will open its doors this Sunday to welcome nearly 3,000 athletes from different regions.
Regarding culture, the games will include 11 cultural disciplines, ranging from song and dance to painting, sculpture, photography and literature. Catherine Katungu Furaha expressed her confidence in Congolese talent and stressed the importance of showing the world the diversity and richness of Congolese culture.
The organizers also highlighted the presence of key cultural infrastructures, such as the People’s Palace, the National Museum, the Academy of Fine Arts and the Center Wallonie-Bruxelles. They have confidence in the ability of Congolese artists to shine in these games and win many medals.
These Games of La Francophonie represent a unique opportunity for the Democratic Republic of Congo to showcase its cultural and artistic heritage. The country is ready to host this major event and make the capital vibrate to the rhythm of the Francophonie
